In the grip of emotions.
When you unleash your inner Joe, you primarily choose to be aware of your own emotions. By being curious about your feelings and trying to understand what triggers you, you avoid constantly riding the waves of emotions—both the ones you create yourself and those set in motion by others. The ultimate liberation does not lie in becoming emotionally cold or in feeling the need to understand and absorb everyone else's emotions to be a good colleague or friend. True freedom is found in a balance of compassion, kindness (including self-love), conscious awareness of your own emotions, and understanding what they truly stem from and why they affect you so deeply. It is often about the ability to see things from a helicopter perspective—stepping back to maintain focus and avoid being caught in the grip of emotions.
